I am starting this for this season ( 1st year) grow!
I was gifted a bag of Kentucky Burley seeds (that’s the extent of the ID they had) from someone which in turn led me here. I’ve ordered seeds from NWT for spring planting and looking forward to the experiment. I’ll have to build the garden areas for them, build the drying racks, the knives, the presses, the drying chamber ect. Should be a blast!

401 Cherry Red
Lemon Bright
Harrow Velvet
Little Dutch
Bursa
Prilep P66-9/7
Stag Horn
Pennbel 69

Lots to learn and research on these still. I’ll probably try to squeeze a small greenhouse build in very soon, and I’ll build a 10’ x 12’ lean to off the side of a shed for drying.

Hopefully lol

I just ordered from ISONS for some more Muscadine and raspberry (wife’s favorite berry) so lots to do in preparation. I also have a 50’ x 40’ garden area that I’ve divided into 4’ x 20’ garden strips and a couple odd shaped patches for veggies.
I’ll need to add a rabbit/chicken/duck garden to cut back on feed costs this year.

My books have arrived!
1- Grow your own cigars
2-Blend your own Pipe Tobacco
I am pretty much an analog guy so I’m pretty stoked about having these in print! I apologize ahead of time Bob, but I will be writing in them for notes.
It always feels like I’m destroying a book by writing in it, (mother was a librarian) but my notes will be handy that way.

I have the above listed seeds to try to grow this year, I’m looking for some that grow well, little maintenance on the plants, and taste good in my pipe.
My goal is to grow an everyday smoke blend, experiment lightly every year also.
I have to perfect the methods I found here (pressing, stoving, Perique, ect…) I’ll use some cheap tobacco that I won on a bid for $5.50 for 12 oz Smokers Pride Original to try my first batch of making Perique, if it doesn’t work the first time I’m only out some time and $5.50.
The hardest part will be keeping good notes (as I gaze at the blank pages of last years garden journal)

I had some whole tobacco for the first time today, what a difference!
I haven’t done anything with it yet so I shredded a leaf of Lemon, Burley, and a bit of St. James and mixed it and smoked that.
The flavor was mild with no bite and stayed lit. The wife even said it smelled good and tried a couple puffs and agreed how smooth it was.
I’m anxious to press some now.
The garden season should be a blast this year!

The seeds get started this week!
I’m going to take a hobo type approach to this, building stuff from scrap lumber, reusing old containers, ect as I work toward “old plinsc” on limited income.
I think I’ll make a board marked off in 16ths and go with handful, pinch, ect for mixing blends. The long game is finding what grows best here and keep collecting seeds every year to keep it going.
I’m looking forward to the challenge.
