Chris,
My first though was that your problem is that you are using Chrome. I have heard Chrome has some good features and is rated as a good browser by some. But not by me. I trust nothing from Google! I don't even like opening an g-mail and often don't, and just delete them They scan EVERYTHING for content and keywords and use it for marketing, among other things. If you have google tool bar, delete it! It's full of crap. But since you have been using Chrome for a while and haven't seen this problem before, it may not be their doing. I repeat, may not, but still could be.
Assuming google is not responsible, then it is probably the program you downloaded yesterday, or picked up some other unwanted malware from a web site or e-mail attachment. Download Spybot and run it. Everyone should have Spybot. It will locate any malware, identify it, delete it and immunize your computer from further intrusions. You can get it from cnet.com. You can trust that anything you get from cnet is safe. I have used cnet for years and I downloaded some modem drivers from them last night.

If that doesn't do it then go to Trend Micro and run their House Call on line virus scanner. I've used it many times and it works very well. If something has corrupted or managed to by pass your virus scanner, House Call will find it. My wife and I have used it many times to help in identifying viruses, and as a cross check after removing viruses from other peoples machines for them. We have never come up against a virus we couldn't beat.

Although the last one we did was called fakeavlock, and it is a very nasty one! It will render your computer completely useless. And it is a real challenge to get off a badly corrupted computer.

I recommend Firefox for a browser. You can customize it anyway you want by typing about:config in the address bar. Firefox has some great add ons too. I run no script and flash block. Add block is also a very good add on. You will never see a pop up again or any other adds on any site you go it with those. No script alone does a very good job of it. Flash block is a must have for me. Most things done in Flash these days is pure garbage anyway, imho. Pages will load waaaay faster with flash block and you can chose what you want to see with one easy click.
If you want to bring your computer to us, my wife will find the problem and fix it in no time at all. She is super geek. lol
Good luck
