questions concerning the insulation of my kiln,,,,

my kiln is pretty big,,,it is 4 ft. tall 28 inches wide,,, and 23 x32 inches wide,,,

ive began to notice it looses it's heat kinda quick,, ive siliconed all cracks,,,, and the duct tape on it, is just for precautionary measures,,,

i aqquired some insulation,{ the type they use in metal buildings} with ''white plastic'' coating on one side, and insulation on the other,,,

im thinking of lining, the sides, the top,, the bottom,,,,

line it all with this insulation,,, but lining it on the inside,,,with a staple gun,,,,


would i notice a big difference in doing this,? i believe it will help it retain its heat,,,,

and it being lined in plastic, the humidity from the crock-pot shouldnt mess up the insulation,,,

The difference you will notice is dependent on the R value of your insulation. Also dependent on leaks. Heat does not necessarily need a hole to escape but they certainly do not help. It can pass right through things. slowing down how fast it passes through is the idea of insulation.

The other approach is to make heat faster than it can escape. Actually your space may be large for a kiln, but it is small as far as an area to be heated. It will loose heat faster simply because it is not real large, mostly air and not a lot of mass to absorb heat.

im mainly concerned with insulating it,,, for the period when it's 30 outside,, and the nights are in the freezing temps,

The more stuff between cold and what you are trying to heat the better.
