On the trippy side of tobacco I have been looking at this out of curiosity, I wondered if anyone here has ever made their own or tried this before. Sounds pretty intense blowing the stuff up your nose.

Ive tried black rapee from Samuel Gawith way back when, and I want to say Viking Dark is in the same category.

Viking dark was my go to for a while, very nice stuff but I got tired of stuffing my nose full hahaha. I would not call it a ethnobotanical per se but it was great when I first quit smoking. Toque snuff along with a bunch of others still carry Viking dark but google says black rapee is discontinued.

You can definitely make it yourself, its a fairly straightforward coarse grind nasal snuff with medium moisture (enough to clump but still be sniffable, more like a schmalzer without the oil, less like snus or Copenhagen, but the grind was maybe a touch finer than Copenhagen) made with fire cured and most likely mixed with some Rustica and Burley. It looks like the link provided mentions an alkalyzer too which would beef up the nicotine absorption, sodium carbonate would work there.

You only sniff it into the nostrils, not into the sinuses, it has a pretty bad post nasal drip though. Id say its worth a try if you are interested but not something I would buy a ton of if you have never tried. Its definitely not for everyone. Get a schmalzer too if you do order, just as easy to snuff but less burn and more interesting aromas, similar post nasal drip though. Less nicotine in the schmalzer too though.

Well, the linked article about Rapé misses on some of its facts. N. rustica is a cultivated tobacco that originated in Mexico, and spread southward to western South America. It is not tobacco of the Amazon.

Wilsons of Sharrow makes a Black Rapee as well. It has little sparkles in it which I take to be from the salt or an alkali.

I was going to insert a Galen or Hippocrates quote, but when I looked them up, I discovered so many of them were fishy that I trusted none of them.
