I’m hoping that the wealth of knowledge that exists here on my most trusted go to site can help me.
This is my 3rd year of growing and hav a pest I don’t seem to be able to beat, this year I have Burley , Oriental and VG all suffering from the same blight , I originally pondered my pesticide was the cause so I left some plants untreated only to find that they to become effected please check pics and hopefully someone knows what to do A4EDD14F-DC1A-4A7C-B5F4-5BB9EED748C5.jpeg A4EDD14F-DC1A-4A7C-B5F4-5BB9EED748C5.jpeg

A little background on your growing conditions would be helpful. I see two photos of only a single (unidentified) plant in a small (size unknown) container, resting on wet pavement. More photos please (including entire plants), and count of plants for various varieties vs number affected. When transplanted? How managed.

Meanwhile, you can browse through this tobacco image site, to see if your problem resembles:

Limited space means I stagger my plant out times . Soil is store bought tomato potting mix , temps remain in the high 80’s with 13 hrs of daylight all pots have catch trays
Leaves have no visible insect larvae, bug or grub , they just progressively change colour and up to half a leaf can be lossed
Thanks for the links Bob , I’ll check them 06426A82-02AE-466D-9643-0FAED4DDFC50.jpeg

The damage pattern that I see is mostly leaf necrosis, with little hint of the earliest signs of abnormality. The photos don't tell me much about earlier signs, and no particular pathogen comes to mind. A few more questions:
  1. How were the plants watered?
  2. Were there times when the leaves were wet when the full sun came out?
  3. Are the plants that are beneath the shelter more affected than those outside the shelter?
  4. In the final photo, the large leaf in the lower center appears to have ring patterns on it. Are these actually there? (It may just be the angle of light reflection.)

Bob i draw water from the pool by watering can and keep the water ph in the 6's , and apply directly to the soil,
# Rain drops are quite often on the outside plants and yes showers of rain to full sun is often
#the sheltered plants are more effected than those outside leading me to think i'm spreading the virus as i snap off shoots and no rain to wash it away.
# yes there is brown spot rings on the leaf in question
Knucklehead put up a link that i can see Mosaic Virus similarity on my plants , the fix there may be diluted milk , its to late in the morning for applying any spray right now.
I've no idea how to treat the brown spot , stalks and roots are healthy

My overall thought is that at least some of the damage is sun scald, caused by direct sunlight magnified by pools of water on some parts of the leaves. The leaf with the ring patterns on the leaf in that last photo suggest tobacco ringspot, while some other areas, which show early laminar necrosis, suggest brown spot (Alternaria alternata). Tobacco ring spot is viral (Nepovirus TRSV). Brown spot is fungal, and tends to grow during wet or damp conditions, while producing spores and spreading during dry conditions.

These are really just guesses on my part. Observing day by day and week by week, as a problem evolves, often aids in identifying the issue.

Is the water from your pool chlorinated?

The large damaged areas look like sun scald. It can also happen without the help of water. I see it on occasion. The smaller spots could be insect damage from something nibbling on them and causing scaring around the area. Or it could be brown spot or ring spot. But fortunately I have never seen either here so I really don't know about that. Overall I think you plants look pretty good, especially for container grown plants.

Much appreciated Bob , Your advice is always educational , as to my water source it hasn't had chlorine added since the xmas party prep last year , i was using rain water tank during that period but means i have to lug it 25 meters .
I just checked todays UV rating and it's at 9.1 which means humans burn in 20 minutes so these green guys are doing it tuff for sure

Chlorine can make the combustion of the leaf very difficult if not fire proof. It can also kill beneficial microbes in the soil.

Great advice for all rite there Knuckhead, the reason i never used town water from the start was 7.8ph and the smell of chlorine is big to at 2%
I wait untill pool test kit shows 0.1 chlorine before changing away from rain water tank.
Thank you for your valuable knowledge and help also

If you need water from the mains, I use these water filters for RV's that connect to an outside faucet and garden hose. It worked well last year.

Ahhh ok.
Yeah, back in the day (2013) I joined the site. But before that, I had joined another forum. That forum wasn’t very active except for one member (who I thought you might have been). The reason I left that forum for this one was for the same reason you joined. Made a lot of friends and we made so many trades back in those early years. Everyone interacted with everyone in their grow blogs. This is a great place to be.
