Hi everyone,

My name is Scott, and I am from Chicago. I am new to the whole tobacco growing game. I am moving into my first house, and my wonderful wife has allowed me to use our backyard as a garden. Apart from food, I want to grow many types of cigar tobacco this summer, and find out what is right for me. I am a big fan of Ashton Patel maduros, and will attempt to grow some maduros of my own. So far, I am planning to grow CT shadeleaf, CT broadleaf, PA red, and Havana 142. If I am lucky, maybe I will try to get some FL Sumatra, Cornstock Spanish, and Zimmer Spanish as well.

Aside from being a cigar enthusiast, I am a student of Computer Science. I very much love all things electronic. However, I am not just a computer lover, but instead I love learning a bit of everything, especially philosophy. That's pretty much me in a nutshell. I look forward to siphoning your collective knowledge, sharing my experiences, and some good smokes.

You sound like you know what you want, way more than I did when I started, Talk to deluxstogie, I believe he is quite familiar with the maduros. Good luck. Is there a thread for that?

I agree that Bob is the one on the cigar issues. Look up some of his posts on the issue. I am sure I have seen him mention Maduro in his posts more than once. Another good way to sample different leaf is some leaf swapping. A bit faster than growing it yourself before you can smoke it. That way you can fast track the selection you actually grow.
Good Luck. you are in fine company for your project.

Hey Scott, I am a relatively new tobacco grower with cigars as my focus. Deluxstogie (Bob) has been and continues to be a great help for me. His threads are lucid, well named and informative. You can use the Search box in the upper right to find a list of his threads. Just type in Deluxstogie and up they will pop.

You say you like philosophy. How about the following -- "Consolation from imaginary friends is NOT imaginary consolation." This helped me to understand behavior which has always puzzled me.

Sounds like what sociologists call the Thomas theorem. "If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences." It is a profound way to understand other cultures, and grants one warning that everything perceived, objective or subjective, has consequences. If one receives consolation from an imaginary friend, then anything that person does, as a result of said consolation, will be a very real consequence.

I am a determinist by the way. So that anecdote does resound well with my cosmology. At any rate, it's good to meet you John.
