Hey, cfh1969. Welcome. The best varieties can depend on where you will grow the tobacco plants. To get a more specific response go into your control panel, click on Edit Profile and give us a clue to where you live and will grow it. Now, the question dealing with the 'best tasting' tobacco is a doozy. Correct answer is, "It depends" because they all taste pretty good to me. Do you want to grow it for cigs, cigars or a pipe? Do you like sweet tastes, or strong flavors, or both? LOL, see how difficult it would be for anyone to answer that one for you?

So, do a little explaining on those questions and research the posts here on the forum. Lots of good stuff here for you to explore.

Welcome cfh1969. Those are all good questions that we all have asked at one time or another. We all have provably come up with the same answer, Its what we like. Its personal taste that you will have to come up with and how you are going to use it. I guess for me it's all good.

Hey, me too!!! This is an extract of a post I found describing Tennessee Burley TN90" after a few months of 'air-curing' under a carport.

The leaves are a dark red on the top and a lighter gold red on the bottom. The flavor tastes slightly sweet like caramel with a wisp of honey and spicy now and then. After more extensive sampling I figured out the lower early gold leaves have the spicy honey notes and the rest of the crop is a full flavored toasted caramel taste. The flavor tastes slightly sweet like caramel with a wisp of honey and spicy now and then. Very distinctive flavor but not too strong.

Later this poster grew some VA Gold and TN90 and posted these comments:

The TN90 is hardy and delicious! Cured some of last year's Virginia Gold in a jar after hanging in the carport most of the winter. It is very sweet and smooth, sort of a strange bland taste but good. Blended 50% with the TN90 makes a smooth and flavorful cig. Unlike anything commercial, as good as any. Will likely plant Gold again but two to three times as many plants as the burley to make up for the yield difference. Happy growing! Edit: It's really more than a faint sweetness, it's actually got a noticeable sweet smell and flavor. Some of the leaves are sticky. My tobacco improves the RYO stuff. Not the other way around. It just mellows mine down a bit. Did I mention the flavor is awesome?

So, there you have it!!! Grow some of this and let us know how it turns out for YOU. Also, do some research and let everyone know what you found.

OK, catch you on the flip side.
