I received my first order from WLT last Thursday and I couldn't be more pleased. yesterday the retailer I used to buy my blend from let me use his shredder. The machine is a Just Good brand he asked me if I would be interested in buying it because his business is taking a different direction towards Vapor. He said he has that machine he would take $200 for or an older machine he thinks is the older/slower model for $100. . The newer model started squealing some (bearing or cleaning needed? )and after a few minutes the smell you get from electric motors when they are overworked.
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the older model??? I noticed the manufacturer will fix/service these for $100 or I'm pretty handy myself. Of course I would offer him $150 for the newer one if I was going to fix it. It made a pretty nice cut, I've never used the power-matic so I can't compare. The thing seems like it's got a lot of parts, heck I don't know. Any Input would be appreciated.

Bear in mind, the manufacturer charges $275 for a brand new one. To pay $150 for a used one, and then $100 to refurbish, plus whatever shipping will cost you (you'll have to pay the shipping to California; I'm pretty sure the return shipping is free), you'll end up paying more for a used one than what a brand new one would cost from the manufacturer. It makes no sense.

Powermatic will come out with their new model soon. Currently everyone is out of stock on the old model. I haven't used a Just Good brand but have heard that they are a glorified paper shredder. I can recommend the Powermatic from experience with it. It's compact, but heavy and substantial. I haven't had any problems in over a year of ownership.

The bigger question is does anyone have any experience with the"older model" this guy has. He didn't have it at his shop and I can't find it anyplace on these interwebs. Said it was just not as fast as the newer one , thought about a pound in ten minutes.

If it were a "glorified paper shredder," and I've heard that too, would it produce the "pretty good cut" that BKtx says he got?

You're right, I should limit my comments to what I have experience with. I have no experience with the Just Good brand. For all I know I'm just perpetuating a myth concerning the Just Good products and that's not right. I do like my Powermatic though and highly recommend it.

I've read all the praise on the powermatic and that's really the machine I would like to have eventually. That's why I'm hoping this "older " machine will have enough left in it to carry me through for a little while. Thanks for y'all's input.

I may need to look into that with the leaf I'm expecting this year. I am using a pasta mach. I may put the drill motor on it. LOL. Going to look around for one. If I find one I will post it so some one can get it. I'v never used one as well.

Just did a little looking; Just Good appears to be the "Fresh Choice" shredder. My understanding is it gives more of a flake cut than a shag cut like the PowermaticS.

Well hold on. My Buddy,Knucks has a good point. Nobody here has one. I am going to buy one tomorrow and give a side to side test. I just got a a discount for one since I bought the PITA Cig. Injector.

^^^^^^ if it's not gonna be too awful long I believe I'll wait. DGBama is correct about the "fresh choice" machine the cut is pretty good as I said but "shag" cut would be better IMO. I may test drive the older machine if the Powermatic is gonna be awhile.

Sounds like the newer version is in worse condition..The older may be the go...id take the cover off both before you buy them and check out the bearings.gears and Combs see how they look..you should be able to tell which one has been thrashed the most

It is the "next generation" Mach One shredder. For some reason, Fresh Choice has rebranded its products as "Just Good Tobacco." About the cut, judge for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q448m54rNEE ... not a fine shag, but it should work okay for stuffing cigarettes.

Getting back to my original response to BKtx, even $150 is too much for the newer model if it is in imminent need of being sent to Fresh Choice for refurbishing. Seems to me that BKtx has two choices: get the older model or wait for the "next generation" Powermatic S to hit the market. But he's not going to get a new Powermatic for $100-$200.

A sometimes overlooked advantage of buying a shedder or tobacco from www.wholeleaftobacco.com is that the owner of WLT is also the founder of this forum. Buying from Don helps keep this forum going. That's not the only reason to buy a Powermatic, but it is a consideration. Don and the folks on this forum have been good to me so promoting products that benefit the forum and it's founder is a small price to pay for their kindness and for putting up with my BS. I imagine hosting me is no picnic. Putting that teeny consideration aside, I've been very pleased with the performance of my Powermatic shredder and have had no problems aside from needing to tighten the screws up once in over a year's time. If the next generation is an improvement over this generation, it is well worth waiting for.

I couldn't agree more Knucklehead,I'm from that old school loyal mold myself. My friend is going to sell me the older machine for $75 . I ran a half lb. through it with no hiccups, overheating,or squealing just went nice 'n slow with it.Not the cut that I'm used to or prefer but it'll do until new model powermatic gets in. Then I'm thinking there might be somebody on here that could use it.

At this point I'm not able to shell out the cash for the Cadillac shredder Don offers, but at some point I will. In the meantime I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the well known manual crank shredder one can buy online for about $40. Apparently the "standard" model is the only one available for now which shreds 1mm shag. Little thicker than what I'd like, but I think it would do the trick.
