I have a book on natural remedies and plants. The book says to soak 1 lb stinging nettles in 1 gallon of water for 1 week, it is suppose to be high in nitrogen. I will feed 2 burley plants this mixture / without any fertilizer and see if there is a difference from the other plants. I have 6.5 acres and have lots of nettles. Anyone else seen this? Below is a site I found on Nettles. Russ

All I know about stinging nettles is the ammonia in your urine takes the sting out when you stumble into them. LOL Be careful! We use to have a lot around when I was younger, got tired of pissing on myself, avoid at all costs!!! LOL We call it bull nettle.

When I was a kid my cousin and I were out in the woods and my cousin had to take a dump and used them
for toilet paper and ...Man I tell you ....I never heard so much screaming and yelling and laughing all at the same time
in the same house in all my life.
To this day he can never live that one down.

As a kid I spent quite a lot of time on an Aunt's dairy farm. Lots of nettles. I don't know if they bother cows but my Uncle thought they did. He also had a jackass. This animal seemed to have no earthly purpose on the farm until it came time to let the cows into new pasture. The jackass was put in a few days before the cows. He would pass up perfectly good grass and scout out all the nettles and eat them first ! Now I knew his purpose. Uncle used to loan him out to friends with the same problem.

Re: nettles as butt wipe. Reminds me of the old bathroom safety tip "Don't put the Preparation H and the Ben Gay on the same shelf."

That is too funny. I grew up on a farm, one day my cousins from the city were at our farm. Well my brother and me got them to pee on the electric fence!

thanks, Russ.
I got this from that site "Nettles contain a lot of nitrogen and so are used as a compost activator or can be used to make a liquid fertiliser which although somewhat low in phosphate is useful in supplying magnesium, sulphur and iron. They are also one of the few plants that can tolerate, and flourish in, soils rich in poultry droppings."

this means there should be a lot growing behind the cop shop in Blackfalds because there was a chicken farm there yet a couple of years ago.

nettles are awesome plants
for fertilizer they are wondeful and some biodynamic growers have great results with it
thye are also highly nutritious edibles, both the greens (RAW and cooked) and the seeds
and the fiber is extremely useful (thats where the word net comes from because it makes such good fiber for that, due to the fact that unlike hemp it doesnt rot from the inside out and is much more durable in high moisture or underwater environments)
they also can take a lot of nitrogen and do great planted next to an outhouse/what have you
they are high in silicon and can help increase disease resitance in nearby plants and when planted a 1:10 ration with herbs increase essential oil content in said herbs

all and all nettle is ****ing sweet so even if it doesnt do what you expect it to, i highly recommend having some around, awesome plant:)

They grow wild here, I walk around barefoot and every time I step on one I kill it.

If you want nutrition listen for the moo.

I hate them damn jelly fish plants.
I had to walk through the biggest patch of those to get to my favorite small mouth spot, and cussed them every step.

I never got to finish trying the nettle fertilizer. Got hit with a bad hail storm, then it was just trying to get any of the plants to come back. Russ

We got them stinging nettles everywhere round here, in some places that's all that's growin. They grow twice a summer, sometimes three times. Feels like fire when you touch them. Sounds like they would be good compost material. As a side note, thornapple also increases oil/resin production in other plants.
