Keep an eye on that puncture Knucks, keep it clean and such, even if it wasn't a poisonous bug, this is the beginning of a heavy MRSA season and staph infection season, NOT fun stuff (personal experience).

Happy growing, stay safe!

Boboro , did you really have to add bed to the list of places ? I'm going to be freaking out every night now! I already check my shoes. I wont wear clothes that have been left in the barn over night until they been washed in hot water, now I'm gonna dream wild dreams. LOL
I had a boss man that was bit by a brown recluse in bed. wouldnt go to the doc. an almost died. The spider should not have been thir its not thir habatat. but he was a Mennonite and who knows what they call a bed.

May 25. My seed grow out starts were beginning to yellow so I put the first supplemental fertilizer to them today. They were started April 29. Many of them are still tiny. I think the Miracle Gro potting mix was a mistake. I'm debating repotting to seed starting mix or peat/vermiculite mix. Any opinions?

I used the Miracle Grow potting mix in my 72 cell trays, somewhat dissappointed in the material, very course and had to sift out excessively large pieces. I will avoid it in the future. Repotted my starts to 9oz cups last week and got lucky with buying "peat" that I intended to mix with my own soil. It turned out to be like a mix of peat moss and river loam, dark color and finely screened. Holding moisture well and the plants are doing really well this week. Cheap too....6 bucks on a 50lb bag at the CO-OP. I plan to use it exclusively next year.

"BACCTO" just sounded too much like Tobacco/Tomato to not try it and I am glad I did.

I like the Co-op. :) I'll give that Baccto and Peat a go. I need to get some algaecide for the pond anyway.

Finally found a couple of tiny little slugs (1/2 inch) on the underside of two leaves. Will go tomorrow and get some Slug Killer. Funky looking little critters, they look like periwinkles without the shell.

I got some of the Bug-B-Gone granular and spread it around the outside of the patch. The slugs may have found an opening. I've been spraying BT on the plants.

I fertilized all the plants except the Orientals and then irrigated the whole plot. The instructions for the slug pellets stated not to place them on dry ground, so after the irrigation, I spread around the slug pellets. We're expecting rain Sat. so after that dries off the leaves, I'll spray them again with BT. It's about time for them to find a higher gear.

I only find three slugs this year at my home garden but I have tons of snails. Edible. I'm not fan of it but I collect them into big pot. They have eaten my babies twice down to the ground. I have enough. So, I also put some slug pellets and now they look so sad when they die. This pellets are also very poisoned and is not good for the soil. I'm unhappy to kill them this way. Maybe next year I make for them extra bed with salad, strawberries and broccoli but I kill them when they will try forbidden fruit. Sounds more human.

Brown Thumb (bless his heart) is sending me some leftover Izmirs. After I get those planted, I will officially be finished with my first wave of planting. Eight varieties for my personal use, around 220 plants. Virginia Gold K326, Burley TN90, Izmir, Samsun - Maden, Smyrna #9, Yellow Twist Bud, Jalapa and Olor. Hopefully pictures tomorrow if I can remember. Thank you everybody for the seed and seedlings. This is a great community.
