Sean -

I used an electric heating thermostat in my kiln. I found it to have a closer operating range than my water heater ones - like 3 - 4 deg F compared with 15 - 20 deg between on/off on the water heater ones. Had the water heater ones on a metal plate, but it probably wasn't big enough to settle the thermostat down.

I found my el heat ones at a garage sale (boot sale?) for $5.

Good point. It makes perfect sense as you want to control room temp tighter than water temp. If I had it to do again that's the way I'd go. Is Max temp high enough?

Forgot that point, John.

They need tweaking. The ones I have (Honeywell, White Rogers) have calibrating adjustment screws on the bi-metal actuating plate. These screws ride on the cam or ramp that is turned by the temp setting knob.

I set the one I used so the dial setting at mid-range clicks on about 120 F.

Hey guys I have been hunting around for something to help regulate temp and so far nothing cheap. So I might have to fork out some cash for one.
Also am thinking that my crockpot is a tad too big for the fridge. So am starting to think of a heat lamp and some sort of water source feed externally Though i had it off all night and woke to 70rh But only 13C I am enjoying playing with it as its a whole new ball game

You might give an electric skillet a go. Nice and short and with gravity fed water, depth won't be an issue.

Yep our bill was up $80 last month. That womans got a good nose on her then. Was watering with buckets and lettin it stand over night but did not have enough buckets in the end, at one point the mains blew and the whole town supply ran down so they decided to clean out the pipes. It was a few days before i worked out the amount of chlorine they had put in. I stopped watering for a while after that till the water was back to normal.
Mad that it flavours the baccy, salts it maybe?
Light bulb is a bright idea. Still need humidty...

My water heater thermostat setting matched a thermometer I set inside right on the money. If its off and you figure how much you can adjust to allow for it.

that might work Knucks I was also thinking of a small element in a water container but that might be too much heat and create steam

Also just found this "drying box

I'd stick my thumb out to go get that thing or try to intice my neighbor

I can't help it that's funny. lol

An illuminating idea even,
if you were to take a light bulb in a snake lamp and placed under a donut shaped cake tin, bulb facing up to place heat in center. Then tape the thermostat probe to the outside upper edge of the tin and wire into the light circuit you would have a cheap as slow cooker, no?
if thats not enough moisture a computer fan blowing over the water.

Be careful if your bulb is facing up and your tobacco is above it. If any tobacco were to fall onto the bulb you'd have yourself a nice fire in no time. I use a light bulb screwed into a metal dome shaped receptacle. If any leaf were to fall it would (in theory) just slide down the side and onto the floor.
