It's all over, for now. I'll be going on a holiday and in the meanwhile I cleaned up the tobacco project. That is, no more plants in my backyeard. I had already harvested them all except for a single Xanthi plant which I have transferred to the little strip in front of our office. It's trying to blend in. Not having tobacco for a while will hopefully contribute to a healthier set later on this year. I intend to grow F2 of KxA 1 and of KxA 5 (Brightleaf). I also want to grow a few rustica. Of course there's room for more, and I'll think about it in the coming months. I will set new life to this thread later on when I start growing again. A few pictures from my old camera before the closing:

Strictly taken this is no Tutu tobacco. Then again I'm the sender of seeds and I've also done the transplanting. It's at my mom's place though. Took a little shot of it for you guys. It's Besuki, Kasturi and Corojo. Some will go into the garden, others will be given away to friends.

LOL....I have some 'Tutu' tobacco as well. Our spring has been horrid here. We'll see how the Irish Tutu tobacco, in the tray in front of my beans, compares with the Indonesian Tutu tobacco, when the season is over:

My "Tutu tobacco" is still very small, I hope I can put it in the ground in a few weeks/days ?
Tutu's "Kasturi Angsa" and "Besuki" are really slow, they don't seem to like French weather... :)

"Tutu Tobacco." It flows off the tongue. In Turkish, tobacco is called "tutun." "Tutu Tobacco" conjures up a vision of Indonesian/Dutch/Turkish leaf. Now we have Indonesian/Dutch/Turkish/Irish leaf. And Indonesian/Dutch/Turkish/French leaf. Where will it end?

Who knows where it'll end! But for now I'm making sure that the same people who grew tobacco last year that went into the First Tutu Blend will also grow tobacco this year. I posted an image of small plants that were germinated at my mom's in Gelderland. Some of them will go into the ground there, others will be given away. I took three of them to Friesland, and three of them to Utrecht. All one variety each. Besuki, Kasturi, Corojo. In Utrecht the three plants were placed at a particularly greenhouse like spot in the attic-bathroom of the house. At Utrecht, my friend had grown Amersfoort last year. He neglected the plants slightly but he did harvest and cure. The pots were left dormant during the winter on his balcony where all seedpods fell directly into the pots. That meant I could pick a few of the largest specimen and plant them alongside the other varieties in Utrecht. This season he should top the other varieties, to make sure to keep the Amersfoort strain going fresh on its own. It is nice to have someone grow the Amersfoort in the Netherlands, rather than myself continuing the strain in Indonesia. For now all the plants are back on the balcony. Not a whole lot of sun, but they'll do alright out there.

Holland's Hope is a marijuana variety. They were in the pot first. But quite fitting that Amersfoort is the only Dutch variety we have to our availability and given that it is the only place we'll be growing it in the Netherlands this year.

During the late 18th Century in the US, John Chapman ("Johnny Appleseed") spread the cultivation of apples throughout the new nation, its territories, and into Ontario.

Tutu, in the early 21st Century, spread Dutch Amersfoort tobacco across the globe!

Previously I had done some transplanting into small pots at my grandfather's farm. I had left him a few seedlings which didn't grow that well. Not as good as those my mom and my friend in Utrecht were keeping. This farm is only two towns away from Amerongen, the last growing region of this tobacco. The seeds come from a little museum in Amerongen. So I decided I had to pick the largest seedling and plant it.

Last year my grandfather had a few Amersfoort plants growing at his place. One of the guys who regularly does some work on the farm told me that he had saved seed from last years plants and germinated it at home very early this year. Says he's got plants of about 50 cm high. So now I know of two people growing Amersfoort in the Netherlands this year.

Here are some shots from today.

So I've been in the Dominican Republic for about two weeks, working with tobacco every day.
Then I saw this plant growing very near to my apartment. I got some seeds and I took a picture.

Came back to Indonesia today. Although no tobacco was growing in my yard, there were two plants growing in front of the office.
One had been a mystery appearance all along. The other I had planted there myself when I left.
I had a Xanthi growing from seeds received from down under.
It was a small plan when I left, had not harvested any leafs, and I didn't want to throw it away.
So I had removed it from the yard and placed it in front of the office.
Both plants have grown to large sizes, with various stalks.
I've harvested some of the Xanthi.
They're going to be sun cured.
I went around in the area today as well and shot two pictures with my phone.
