What Cigar are you smoking? (2026)

Avo xo notturno. Something new here in the UK (or atleast at the shop where I buy). Dominican filler/binder with a connecticut shade wrapper. Corona format. Supposed to be a medium-full strength cigar but definitely starts off on the mild side of the spectrum and doesn't really go much past medium. But thats typical with most dominican blends and shade wrappers. The only shade wrapped cigar i've smoked thats on the fuller end was the camacho connecticut. Any way back to the smoke at hand, its very very smooth. I wouldnt call it complex as there are very individually singled out notes of slight spice and cedar. Then theres the creaminess and slighlty nutty taste of the wrapper. Not much oomph on the retrohale but i would say it is a Beautiful morning smoke! Almost reminds me of the davidoff no 2. Back when the kelners were the producers and it was a 'competitively' priced stick.

Joya De Nicaragua makes a Antano Connecticut Shade that is surprisingly full body. Give it a shot.

Today's Herf is courtesy of @FrostD ! I only had time for a Robusto today and I have been waiting to test this blend that's been humidor for almost 2 weeks now. I enjoy the San Andreas, Connecticut Broadleaf combination which was very prevalent in the first third and good flavor transition. Construction was good enough I smoked it to a nub.

Smoked a oliva master blends robusto last night after around 2 years. Forgot how lovely and smooth this cigar is considering its almost all ligero. What a treat it was!

Yesterday afternoon did a blend test session with cigars sent to me from one the factories I’ve been talking to in the Dominican Republic. 5 different blends consisting of 2x Corona, 1x Robusto, 1x Lancero, and 1x Toro vitola.

Had a Rocky Patel Emerald. The best part of it was the surprised Pikachu face in the ash. Beyond that, it was fairly lackluster.



I decided to apply the tactic of, "get one to test and one to rest", so I picked up a second one to try again after a few months.

Smoked something different tonight. Rocky patel - the eagle robusto. Supposed to be a nicaraguan puro but i could swear it tasted 100% like honduran tobacco. Very strong notes of spice, musty/dank earth with some nuts. Nice smoke. Ive smoked the rocky patel disciple and the edge maduro before. But this is a little different. It taste very much like a strong, old plasenicia 1898 reserve line which went out of production a few years back. It makes sense as i know rocky patel get a lot of his tobacco from the plasencia family.

From ice storm to blizzard to warm(ish) sunny day. Although the forecast was for a staggering 62°F this afternoon, it did manage to climb up to a reasonable 55°F with a light breeze.

I enjoyed sitting out on my front porch for the first time in many weeks, smoking one of my patiently waiting JR Consuegra #30 EMS cigars. (I purchased a few bundles just before the tariffs doubled their price. From the looks of their website, they are now an extinct species.)
