Oliva Seconds, of which there are numerous, transient varieties, are designated only by lot numbers. No clue is offered about its intended frontmark. Each lot specifies a length and ring size, though that is only an approximation. Purchasing Oliva Seconds is always pot luck. But it's a genuine Oliva, no matter what you get. On occasion, I've been able to re-order the same lot number as a previous shipment, but even then, they may differ. There is no indication of the varieties of the wrapper, binder or filler. It's just Oliva.

And there is the bonus of not having to pry an advertising billboard (cigar band) away from the delicate wrapper.

I can usually find a minor flaw in the wrapper of maybe 5 out of the 20 cigars in a bundle, but the remaining 15 appear flawless. I suspect that many "perfect" cigars are included in the bundles, in order to maintain production and cash flow during a time of severe financial stress on the industry.

Regardless of the lot or size of the Oliva Seconds I've received, they have been consistently wonderful smokes, even the few with identifiable flaws. The cigars shown in the photo above cost about $2.50 each. The cigar resting on top of the bundle had a tiny wrapper split near the foot, that had no impact on smoking it.

Sounds intriguing! Where can one buy 'em? Thanks,
G

This Toraño Dominico robusto is a lovely, mellow, early-in-the-day smoke. Though made in Nicaragua, the long-filler is Dominican, and is wrapped in Ecuador Connecticut Shade. Of the five that I have smoked so far, construction, draw and burn have been excellent.

I purchased them as a bundle of 20 cigars for $52.99 (plus taxes and taxes and shipping). That comes to $2.65 per stick (plus taxes and taxes and shipping). [total =~ $2.83 per stick]

The Tatuaje RC series lancero. This is a new UK exclusive. Ive smoked the rc no 1 and no2 before both, beautiful medium smokes. But this lancero tunes things up a notch or 2. The slimmer ring gauge makes for a more concentrated burn increasing the strength and flavour profile. These is definitely a medium- full or medium plus in flavour and strength.

Love anything made my the 'my father' factory.

I'd be very interested to hear what premium, non-Cuban smokes cost these days in the UK, would you mind letting us know what these lanceros cost you? Also, do you know how things are currently looking re the govt's push to get plain packaging legislation in place? Do you think it's going to happen?

The rc lancero cost approx £19 (€22.5/$25). As far as the packaging goes its already happened in places like london. I havent seen it 1st hand as im not to keen on buying full boxes of cigars as i can get bored of smoking the same cigar all the time, but i have seen youtube videos over the last 6 months or so where certain boxes (trinidad) have the original manufacturer band on the cigar but then this is covered with a solid grey band. Its no hassle though, the gray band peels right off to reveal the original. Btw the new budget has just about hit so there is about to be an approx 18% increase on tobacco! I do hate the UK politics and taxes with a passion!!

@UmbriaFarmer Oh and btw i see your from Italy, my sister has just gone there for a few days as a holiday. Shes back in the UK on Sunday so ive asked her to bring me back some smokes. Will be nice to see the price difference
Well, I'll save you the wait! 20 Marlboro reds, €5.50, 30g Golden Virginia or Old Holborn €7.80, 50g cheap brand pipe tobacco €11, 5 Toscanello cheroots €4. It's another reason why I love Italy so much, effectively there is no significan tax on tobacco or booze. Along with Poland we are the cheapest in the eu for baccy. France has recently gone sky-high and yes, the UK has been stratospheric for years. But you want a laugh? Are you sitting down? That packet of Toscanello cheroots that is €4 here? Well take a trip to Sydney Australia...where you will pay $127 for that or how about $185 for 50g generic hand rolling tobacco or a cool $165 for a Romeo yJulieta short Churchill. I shit you not.

Crumbs, £19 ain't cheap for a non-Cohiba lancero. My occasional commercial non-Cuban indulgence is a Macanudo Inspiro Red robusto. I know macanudo are pretty generic mass market shite but this particular cigar has a lot of very punchy ligero filler that never fails to satisfy and they cost €6, which although is expensive compared to my own cigars, ain't a bad deal.

When I worked in a tobacco store, we sold many Macanudos to soldiers from the local US Army post. The soldiers like them because they were packaged in individual metal tubes which made the cigars easy for the soldiers to take to the field and not have to worry about damaging the cigar or losing humidity.
