That is Utah sandstone ... my birthday gift Bearswatter gave me.
That's me. We were supposed to trade a couple of home made sticks but I just don't follow directions well. I have to pull out my notes on the blends but the blend 1 is ready to smoke, I rolled them about a month ago. The blend 2 and trial blend A were rolled about 10 days ago so you can smoke them now but they would do better with another week or two of rest in the humi.

. I was in the mood to send a mailbox buster, I haven't done it in a long time. The Cigar Aficionado board has pretty much died and one of the best things about the place was sending packages to people.
Anyway the blends are as follows. The numbers are number of leaves not parts.

1/2 Aleman Ligero
1/2 Paraguay Flojo Viso
1 Brazillian Mata Fina
2 Piloto Cubano Seco

I like blend 2 better than 1. I can't nail down the flavor difference but they are very different. I have never been very good at describing the flavors. I think in both blends I need to add 1 more leaf of seco to get the fill correct for the way I like my cigars to draw and smoke.
I have yet to try A. These were hard to get rolled into a robusto, too much filler. I think I will remove 1/2 leaf of the ligero next time. Assuming the flavor isn't off the mark.

I'm kind of a CC whore, I love the damn things. That said I am really digging my home rolled. Luckily I don't smoke that much so I can afford to spend a little coin on cigars from time to time.

Wow, I never buy them. I enjoy building My own blends. Kind of like AZD, All sizes and the size to match the smoke time. The bands look good Pete.
Elegance.
Simplicity. Neatness. You can imagine, if the Japs rolled cigars, they'd roll one like this. Samurai Cigar. Fewest possible, cleanest possible moves. White band with tiny neatlines. "Blend # 1". Sharp cut capless ends. Not too long. Pair of mold lines down the sides are a clue to it's perfect cylindricality. Oddly, the bunch bound inside the wrapper felt tight while the wrapper itself felt loose. Bit fat for me.
Deep, muted. alluring tobacco aroma at both foot and head. Delicious. I was not fond of the wrapper flavor. There may have been a trace of glue in that. The unlit draw was medium tight, with a woody chocolate flavor.
I could not light this with one match. Had to torch the wrapper/binder to get the outside to fire. Volume was medium. Flavor was strong. Set her down while I stocked the new garage fridge with beer, so she would have a chance to burn in. Went back to hit it after. Wrote this down immediately:
"Now that right there is some damn good schidt. Oh yeah.
In fact, too much good"
Which I think is a fair summary of the rest of the experience. Had that dark moody Aleman flavor, with a sting. Chestnuts, chocolate, and spice. This flavor is right up my alley, but in this stick the flavor was amped way up; like listening to Satie's Gymnopedie at deafening rock volume. Kicked my azz. Even the nicotine kicked my azz. Made me feel like a wimp. And just got stronger as it went. Pete will prolly find my cigars way too mellow for him. But it had a fabulous aroma. I could live on the aroma alone.
Burnt steady. Which was good; cause I had to set it down three minutes at a time, it being so rich. The cherry would sink into the binder/wrapper, is all, so I had to torch the perimeter a couple times. This means it prolly needs another month seasoning, is all.

Thanks for the review. I agree 100% with your assessment of the flavors. I think the kick comes from the full leaf of the Mata Fina filler. On WLT it is stated as upper stalk position so I guess it most likely should be considered close to ligero in power. For the record I think blend 2 is along the same profile but dialed back a bit in flavor and power. I like it better but that opinion is base on only one example, so not definitive.
I will take a little more care with my glue usage to make sure I don't get heavy handed with it.
I also have had the same experience with getting these fired up. It takes a bit but once burning well they stay lit.

Mainly because I can barely roll a robusto. I need a lot more practice before I can roll a non round cigar.

Good look'n stick Pete... I think the Mata Fina is strong, but I like that in some of my smokes.

Don Has it. It's African Flojo viso but it's grown in Paraguay, I should have been more clear in my description. The leaves are huge, 1/2 of one of these equals about two of the Piloto Cubano Seco.
