As an ever expanding project, my business is trying to design new products to sell pertaining to GYO tobacco products.

A complete kit that allows you to sun cure Oriental varieties. A folding stand that was able to be staked to the ground (incase of wind), stringing wires (skewer the leaves through the center as is customary with oriental tobaccos), a weather covering, a set of hanging sticks (sized to match the stand)., perhaps a built in handle as well.

It wouldn't expensive, wood framing, included hardware, partially assembled (reduce shipping costs).

Let me know your opinions folks

I'm not from Missouri, but...show me. Your biggest hurdle to overcome is dealing with a bunch of do-it-yourselfers...otherwise, they probably wouldn't be here.

I think if you were to show your design in application, you'd get some advice as to how to improve it and market it better.

I'm feeling a bit stupid right now...and I'm sure it's something rather funny but I don't follow you with the Missouri comment, anyway haha, yeah...I am thinking over it all right now and a picture, a diagram, an actual prototype would probably be best to show, sorry Don. I'll snap some of my set up here in the next couple weeks. In the process of moving as it is...

Missouri is the "show me" state. I think Don hit on a big issue with your business plan. If you are marketing to GYO tobacco people they are be definition independent do it yourself types. On the other hand, my DIY skills are a bit deficient so I may have some interest.

Don, you are right. the GYO Tobacco industry is a limited industry. I don't mean to turn this business into my primary income, more of just a way to help people discover tobacco, not commercial "tobacco".

I see it sort of like the Medical MaryJ industry. Most people growing it just make do with what they have or can build, but it's turning to the point now where if you need a grow light, you don't go to Lowes and build it, you buy it.

That's the niche I'd love to make my way into

Revisiting this idea folks. I'm going to build another model for sale in the upcoming weeks. Now I need your opinions if you wouldn't mind:

I'm aware that one of the biggest turn offs is shipping price, so I will be doing a cost offset on the shipping, you won't pay more than $15 in shipping.
Also, I have 2 different models I can build, one consisting of aluminum and one consisting of UV-protect spray painted lumber. As you would expect, the aluminum would cost more, but would typically have a longer life than the lumber. I've created the design to have an optional covering incase of rain. Simply unrap the rain cover, and unroll it downwards to the locking pegs at the base of each leg.

I'm still working on exact cost, but as I see it right now, aluminum will cost about 50% more than lumber.

A rough cost for lumber will be $70 shipped
A rough cost for aluminum will be $95 shipped

A few specs on it, an A frame design that will allow stringing of leaf (primarily used for turkish/oriental strains). This unit will come partially assembled (simple nuts and bolts will be supplied to finish assembly, shouldn't take more than 5 minutes). Unit will stand 4' tall and about 4.5' wide and have enough room for approx. 80 plants worth of leaves. Unit will come with aluminum stringing wire, and elastic stake bands to stake the unit to the ground.

I will build a model and post a picture to show you folks. At this point, I just want to know, would anyone find interest in this? and if so, what would be some features on it be you'd be looking for?

Thanks a bunch guys!

I'm still interested. I was just thinking of how I could do some sun curing today. The rain cover is a nice feature. Because of my job, I often have to travel at fairly short notice, so if I have to enlist my tobacco-phobic wife to help me when I'm gone, it has to be real easy. On my own I was thinking of hanging them on the deck or on a garden fence then bringing them in if it rains, but that's too much to ask my wife to do. So a simple rain cover sounds ideal.
