It's always sad to see what mother nature makes. But far as I can see the thing you can do right now is nothing, let them be and I think most of them will find a way back.. As long as the top leaf are alive (and as far as I can see they are) there are hope..

Looks like ya lost a couple but some look as though they will bounce back. I got fairly lucky when that tropical storm broke up last week. Probably over 10in of rain but not really hard driving rain or winds. No hail either and I thought for sure there would. Luckily only one tornado hit the outskirts of Birmingham AL.
I hope your garden recovers will. It's hard to watch nature destroy your hard work.

Not bad growth for ten days. The back yard didn't lose any plants 0/42. The front lost 5 out of 10 due to ?? Probably wind. It's much more exposed to wind, having no fence. It could have been hares too. Next year I'll plant something more resilient in the front.


I don't think I lost any plants last year. I believe I lost 8 this year, not counting the 54 seedlings I melted. I must be doing something right.

Yeah. I'm happy with it. If you look at post number 170 of this thread, the third photo is Costello Negro exactly a year ago. The Piloto is larger by comparison. I shouldn't worry.

I have inspected some, and I think I need to kill more ants. They've got a Delhi 34 on its last legs.

When is it too late to bag a flower? I bagged Delhi 34 last week, but I'm waiting on the biggest Piloto plant to flower still. I don't know how long it takes for the plant to produce seed.

Short answer: 1 month.

I just walked out, and surveyed my bagged plants. Those that have been bagged about a month are showing a few brown seed pods, with most pods fairly mature and still green. I bagged Piloto Cubano about 3 weeks ago, and while there are many full, green pods, none seem to be fully mature, and none are brown.

Although I still have the original batch of seed, if I grow it again, I'd prefer to try yours out instead. If I get seed, I'll be cutting it close.

I've always waited for the pods to brown on the stalk in the field, before bringing the bag in. But some members have reported ample seed and good germination when the fully mature pods were harvested while mostly green.

So you can just watch the clock tick down, and cut the seed head just prior to the first freeze. (I don't think freezing will hurt the seed, but the pods certainly won't be maturing any more seed after a freeze.)

Bob some "primetive" variants ain't a good idea to save that long because they opening and the small seed can be every wear..

I can give you a short answer: Nope you don't need to.. -I can also say that Try to not give my tobacco water at all in the end of season, but I can guess that it also depends on your climate..
