If you have a sturdy wrapper leaf, and no compulsion to create a visual beauty, then you can often roll a very nice cigar with no binder. It is more difficult to make it perfectly bumpless, with planar sides, but so long as there are no leaks in the wrapper, it works fairly well. I might also note that it's more difficult to roll a truly solid cigar (still with good draw) without a binder, since it requires quite a bit of tension. If the wrapper can take the stress, and it's just for personal enjoyment, I save the binder for another day.

EDIT: Of course, a binder can offer additional flavors and aromas, and can improve the burn of a slow-burning wrapper.

I usually like a smaller ring gauge and can get away without a binder. I'll use a binder if I'm rolling a big old fat hog leg to help compress the filler in two passes. Also on smaller ring cigars with less filler, a binder can throw off the taste balance of the wrapper/filler ratio.

Looking tasty, Moshe. I'd smoke them.

Tip: Wrap so the veins go up the length of the cigar, like your 7 incher, rather than around it, like the ones on the left. Makes them burn way better than having the smolder hit a roadblock. Of course, this means that the wrappers you cut from one side of the leaf go right-handed while the wrapper you cut from the other side go left handed.

If you figure out how to roll a perfecto, let me know. I'm still fumbling.

Smoked a fire cured torpedo from FXSS Saturday. Tasted like steak on the grill! Wonderful.

this is one of the largest I have rolled about 8x1" it was an all afternoon smoker. The first real cigar I have done with wrapper and binder and multiple leaf filler.

Mostly shirey as I have plenty of it with a bit of VA 509 as binder shirey wrapper and shirey/perique filler. It was ok to smoke. Done a few more since smaller and most have been way too compressed to smoke easily. Until now I have mostly done one or two leaf stogies some work some don't, the rejects get recycled as ciggies.

i am finding the sun cured shirey to be far superior to the air dried stuff, a lot sweeter easier on the throat and it seems to have an all round better flavour.

Bigger stick with pigtail is Criollo 98 ligero, Aleman ligero and Dominican ligero fillers, bound and wrapped in CT broadleaf. I call it the ligero monster lol. The two little ones are both the same, Dominican ligero and Mata Fina fillers bound and wrapped in Bezuki.

How do you like the all Ligero? I really like my blend of all Ligero. I call mine LLL CRIOLLO!

Well, ligero monster was quite nice. Rich, creamy, nutty and a slight tang. All 3 ligeros played in harmony, only the Aleman stood out but not even that much. While smoking, and thinking, I noticed this cigar had only been wrapped with no binder, accounting for the protruding cone of ash. Being all ligero it burned kinda lightly, as if it wanted to go out but it never did and I did not have to struggle with it. The broadleaf worked out well and burned nicely, one of the pics is a closeup showing what I think are called potassium flowers (the white dots in the ash). If I had used a firecured binder and maduro wrapper I might have to wear a bib to smoke it lol.

Every description that you just gave about flavor profiles and burnability, is exactly what I get from my LLL CRIOLLO's. I have some LLL Maduros that I'm resting in the humidor and can't wait to try!
