OTOH, the cap is optional - for my straight cylinder (PVC mold) cigars, I just omit it.

Take a look at the post on triple caps I posted today. You may find it helpful. A cigar mold would really help shape the round end for you.

I have a couple of these 7 x 52 and really like them.

Show them what a PVC mold looks like, it'll save some of the guys here a lot of money....more to spend on leaf, lol.

Behold...

I made PVC mold by cutting lengths of 3/4" ID PVC pipe, then cutting them in half lengthwise. I then clamp them together with small hose clamps.

1) mold open, with hose clamps

2) mold closed and clamped, with nut driver

I'm pretty sure the bend in the nut driver is the result of my beloved son using it for a pry bar :)

The result is a 48 RG stick with square-cut ends. I use 3 lengths: 5" (robusto), 6.25" (toro), and 7" (churchill).

I bought 5 of these in addition to my PVC molds. Anyone interested can PM me for the e-mail address of the guy who sells them. He also sells the cellulose glue. (while supplies last) Disclaimer: I have no business interest etc. etc.

BTW, these are actually 8" long so you can make some real all-day suckers out of them :) Or, of course, you can roll/clip to any shorter length you want.

That's a great idea!! If you find a dowel rod that fits inside the pipe fairly snugly, you can cut a short length, set up a jig to plunge route a half sphere in the end of it and then cut in half and glue the pieces to the pvc to have a rounded end for the head of the cigar. I'm going to have to try that.

What did you split the pipe with, table saw, band saw, hand saw?

Tnx, got the idea from @gdaddy. Yes, I've been thinking about various ways to make rounded ends w/ the PVC molds - that's better than anything I've thought of yet :) I haven't really pursued them though, as (1) I got some of the 7x52 plastic molds with rounded ends mentioned above, and (2) I'm happy with the open-ended ones.

I used a (wood) band saw with a nice thin blade. The lengthwise cuts were tedious and not perfect, so I marked the ones that go together, and made hash marks on the sides to match them up.

la foto (11).jpg

Today finished 3 more, still a bit to loose rolled, but 1 is was much better.
I had a hole in the wrapper of drying a bit. I repaired it with a cap.

Here's my latest; since I got my gum tragacanth I spent about 4 hours rolling (while watching tv and eating dinner)

Short filler mixes of both

Edit to add: they are all fairly short and small as I didn't top, or de-sucker that crop and I didn't have any large leaves, let alone large wrappers that would have let me go bigger - an aspiration for when this year's harvest is good to go (I got a heater and fan with pre-wired thermostat out of an old food dehydrator, so combined with my fridge shell, that may be less than two years!)

Those sticks look just fine, have you had a chance to smoke any yet. If they smoke well then don't worry about the look, it will improve over time. And if not dont worry about it, it all about how they taste and smoke really. Keep Rollin, and trying to improve the blend to the point where it's what you like.

Very good - I have a lot of respect for someone that can turn dirt, seeds, water, and sunshine into smokeable cigars :)

N.e. Texas, care to share a closer location? PM me if not in public, we may be able to meet next time I visit my sis in dfw.

I'm too easy to find online, so not trying to be so private...it's just no one has ever heard of where I live!

I'm in Brownsboro, about 1.5 hours East of DFW. I lived in DFW for about 10 years and still go back on occasion...so I'm not that far when it comes to "Texas travel"! I'd love to meet up next time you're around...

Coming from AL, I'm only about 15-20 mins South of I-20.

Sis was in Cleburne for a while, brother in Granbury.

I'm very familiar with those places! I last lived in Flower Mound and have lived in Addison and Mesquite (my wife is from Mesquite) on and off. We'll catch up for sure the next time you're out this way!
