Beautiful :) You come in the night and stole my dream, I'm still dreaming. Always wanted a piece of ground with a pond so I could tie flies than see if they would work. Looks like some good spot for your tobacco and your tractor plus implements gave me an idea for my baby tractor (cub cadet). Maybe I could put chains on it and rig something to break my ground while it is soft :)

I grew Rainbows in it one winter. They got up to 4-5 pounds before summer got here and I caught all I could before the heat killed them. I used a fly rod with flies and a 12' crappie rod (similar action to a fly rod) with a small spinning reel and rooster tails. Oh man they put up a spectacular fight! Jumping out of the water, flying through the air. I used 6 lb test line on the spinning reel with the drag set to let them run and not break the line. What a blast! Great eating too. I'm thinking about putting some Talapia in there this summer if the price is still reasonable. The dang trout went up to five dollars a pound to stock them and I'm boycotting. The bigger bream are up to a pound now and they fight hard for their size. Feels like a five pound bass.

Excellent place to grow your tobacco and with plenty of water!
My only thought is that there is a lot of trees around. As the tree roots are wide and deep, maybe they take all the nutricians for the tobacco, or not?

I'm about to get a soil analysis. i've had them done for the deer food I've grown in the plots and the ph is about perfect and I can usually get away with low nitrogen to start with due to the clover fixing nitrogen into the soil. Nitrogen is the most expensive ingredient in fertilizers, so planning ahead can save some dollars. I'll be far enough away from the trees that they won't interfere. I might cut a root at the very edge of the patch but I'm not planting that close to the edge. I've pushed up some of those pines with the Caterpillar front end loader and the biggest root balls were maybe 3-4 ft. in diameter. I think they have pretty deep tap roots though. We pushed up a 110 year old Hickory tree where we cleared for the pond. It had a root ball about 8 ft. in diameter. When I bought the property that pond area was a jungle of pines, mostly trash hardwood (sweetgum, etc) and hedge bushes you couldn't even walk through. I sold the pines and gave the hardwood to the loggers to get rid of them. I then had the whole area cleaned up and stumps dug up and still came out about $2500.00 ahead. There were some huge pines there and the saw wood sells alot higher than the pulp wood. I planned what to do for about two years before I pulled the trigger on it. Having a plan for the waste dirt from the pond saved me thousands and provided privacy I wouldn't have had otherwise. Disposing of the waste dirt could have cost as much as three or four times more than digging the pond without a good plan. It also dictated what equipment would be used for the digging.

Re: Nitrogen --- Cotton seed meal is a good, slow release, nitrogen source. I use it every year in my small plot with good soil tests and good yield. I don't know if there are any cotton mills left but if so you should be able to get it pretty cheap down there. It's much cheaper in bulk and it's organic. -·-

I vote we have the "First Annual FFT Shin-dig" at knucks place. I'm only 12 hours away by car

Let's shoot for the Fourth of July. There are two fireworks stands beside me and twice a year I get a great free fireworks show. They try to outdo each other and shoot off their best stuff for advertising. It's almost a double show with the reflections in the pond. Great time for BBQ and Coronas.

Hey isn't Johnlee a pilot? He can ferry all you Northeasterners.

Are you kidding? This the South, there's a cotton gin about five miles down the road. I can get it for free if the pot growers haven't rogued it all first. They sneak in at night.

Nope. I am not a pilot but I could learn if you guys want to take the chance and pay for the jet fuel. LOL It's about a 16 hour drive for me and I'm not sure I'm up for that. Any good motels nearby? (Not the warm sheet kind.)

I would suggest October for any possible get together. The weather will be cooler, the tobacco will be in the barn, the kids back in school and all our international friends will get a discount on airfare for buying tickets 6 months in advance. I have full size van, John could drive the 4 hours to my house, we could then pick up Deluxestogie on the way and anyone else in between.
