Good to have some sun. If I did not know better I would have thought they were dying of thirst and over watered them.

Me too. I never would have thought that rain could stunt a plants growth. Every other green thing is loving it. The grass sure is, I've got to get planted out and get back to grass destruction duties.

I'm staring to get really pissed off at this rain I've been getting. 8 Inches above normal for the month of June and it is pouring cats and dogs as I type this! All of my plants (except Silver River) are beginning to bud and they are all about a foot shorter than normal. I attribute that to the below normal temps we had for the first 4 weeks or so .

Knucks, I am also begining to think you have a pipe with my name on it and you are sticking little vodoo pins in it everyday....:D

Maybe we start start a new catergory on.... Hydroponic Tobacco!

It's here too. I think if it doesn't stop I'll loose everything.

We're getting another 2-4 inches today. Same tomorrow, after that it should dry out. If this much precipitation ever happened in January we would be under 20ft of snow!

Same story here around the Dayton area, rain, rain, rain.
West of the Rockies their getting cooked by the heat with little to no rain.
Corn and all the other crops are the best they have been in years around here.
Last summer this time everything was already dried up and lost.
Feast or famine.

We had severe storms move through New England today. They even had tornado warnings. There was even a tobacco disaster in the CT shade grown area. Strong winds blew shade cloth on to I-91. I was watching TV waiting for my car to be inspected and the TV news people never told us what I wanted to know. Was there any damage to the tobacco?

My soil seems to be draining fine. No puddles. The problem is new rain comes before the ground can dry out from the last rain. My plants aren't sitting in standing water but the roots are staying in wet soil. The lack of good sun is hurting me too. Alot of overcast days even when it's not raining. I've had 4-5 days of no rain now this past week, and this is only the second time since I've planted that my dirt has dried out. It's still a little moist under the landscape fabric where my virginia and Burley are planted.
I finished cutting holes in my fabric for the seed grow outs, and drove labeled stakes for each variety. I hope to start back planting tomorrow.

I hear thunder now. I guess it's headed my way. I'm planting tomorrow even if I have to do it in the rain. Crazy stuff.

I put the drip irrigation down in case of drought. Too much rain takes me completely out of the equation. I read Larry's link about drowning and "wet feet", it didn't help my mood too much. My roots could be rotting without me knowing it.

I saw that. Here's the quote: Forecast Details:

Heavy rain early...thunderstorms with drenching downpours in the afternoon. High 79F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Rainfall near 2 inches. Locally heavier rainfall possible. -------------------------------- I'm planning on planting this evening. I'd like to do a poll as to whether or not I ought to hold off. I need to start getting the seed grow outs into the ground. Will they hold up to a "drenching downpour" a couple days after planting?
