Awful news. I planned on planting seeds today, when I came to find that all the seeds from Kasturi x Amersfoort F1 have molded. I thought I had been able to reap seeds just in time before leaving the country. I did, but they were too wet. I had even put in rice to absorb the moisture. It seems highly unlikely that anything will grow from this. Nevertheless, I've planted everything I have. Let's see if there's a lonely seed that will still germinate. Chances seem very slim. Although I still have the original seeds from the crossed plants, this is a major setback.

In the meantime I started curing some of the Xanthi leafs.

Oo that is a little bit"part of the game" I know the feeling, it's happened with one of my N.rustica seed's last season. Nice to hear that you have a backup with seed so it doesn't mean back to step one..I have a box in my garage with a lot of seed sense my wife's father took the car and drive in to the garage (angry) and boooom in to the Fridge where had just put new collected seed from alot of variants, the boxes wasn't closed so.. After that season I keep the seed but I will not use them if I remember it I will burn them up when the winter comes..

From the thousands of molded KxA I planted, at first only mushrooms sprouted. However, after 15 days, I have seen a single seed from KxA 1 germinate. That got me really excited!!

So let me give a full update on all things going on here. First up is the mushroom requested by ChinaVoodoo. I am no expert on mushrooms though. There were quite a few of them coming up, they all looked like this. Some were slightly larger. The image of the actual tobacco sprout can be seen in Kasturi x Amersfoort. The second and third picture are of my Xanthi plant. Just before leaving Indonesia I had relocated it to the front of the office. It grew large and I harvested many leafs. I cut the three stalks and I am currently letting three suckers grow. The pictures are of opposite angles. In the fourth image are some of the Xanthi leafs that have been sun cured but still need their stems to dry out. In the last picture you will see a box of some leafs collected over the past year. All from plants that were discarded, or had other problems. All of them not abundant enough to store in bigger volumes. There's some Timor, Besuki, KxA, leafs from the unknown plant in front of the office, and a few more. Most were sun-cured, some were dark air cured. I will dry them all a little further in the sun or airconditioning and lather shred them manually, make cigarettes from them, and share them among the people in our buying station. We are currently in the middle of buying our first Besuki crop.

I wouldn't know either. But they always turn up sooner or later when tobacco doesn't sprout. It's not been the first time I've seen those.

I've decided to plant a few other seeds.
Prilep P66 (Tabacum)
Hyang Cho
(Tabacum)
Bolivian Criollo Black
(Tabacum)
Nostrano del Brenta
(Tabacum)
Sacred Cornplanter
(Rustica)
Sultan Albanian (Rustica)
Limonka (Rustica)

As you may have guessed, my intentions are to start a first round of crossing tabacum and rustica.
Hopefully this can be a second round of experiments, besides the Kasturi x Amersfoort.

While germinating my own new seeds I thought it'd be nice to show some images of friends in the Netherlands who are growing their plants this season.

I will post a series of photos per location. One of the promising locations is Utrecht. As you may remember from Amersfoort posted earlier on the forum. This was stuff that also made it to the First Tutu Blend. This year, my friend is not only growing four Amersfoort specimen, but also one Besuki, one Corojo and one Kasturi. He promised me to start harvesting next weekend, so that these leafs may go into a new blend next summer.

That's right, and these pots are even a lot smaller than the ones I use. And the climate much colder. But we used the same recipe while potting, mixing in cocopeat. And these Amersfoort are doing quite well in colder climates, just like they do at Charley and Bex.

Tutu I started my Amersfoort later that the one that I have shown one this site. That is the reason that I don't have shown any pictures of them. But I can tell the they are going "good" and have put flowers earlier than expected (just like the plant understand that it need to hurry with it). Delgold and CT-157 have not done that yet (those are also half as big or shorter).

Not to be outdone....LOL. Here is Amersfoort growing outside in Ireland. Our temps this summer, without exaggeration, have rarely peaked over 60F, with wind and rain practically every day. I have to read up on how to cure these, but they were germinated about a month after the rest of my tobacco, grow wonderfully outside, and seem to enjoy this climate.IMG_0409.jpg

Harvesting in Utrecht has begun, at my friend's place. He decided it would be best for him to prime all the leafs at once. 90% of leafs are sound-leaf. He'll leave the flowers of the Amersfoort to blossom. It'd be good to prolong the seedline of Amersfoort close to it's original home. A few pictures of the process:
