Yeah, according to Bob homegrown MSA tastes like a generic havana variety, nothing special. But I am still curious to try and grow it.Yeah, sucks being a smoker in Canada, hopefully all that will change one day. But the question was for the broader audience who has more experience.
Searching "Andres" here turned up a lot of results, the consensus being that home grown won't be the same because of differences in curing and fermentation. Connecticut Broadleaf and Corojo 99 seemed to be favored instead. Honestly, I would look at varieties developed in the north for growing in Canada. This one in particular caught my attention as it was developed in Canada.

As for varieties to grow in Canada, I'm pretty far south, so I am optimistic that I should be able to grow any variety (I'm not too far away from the Ontario Tobacco Belt). I'll find out soon if this optimism is correct though
