HEY ! At a nickle a piece you could pick them up and be able to afford most anything you wanted.

John

My wife has been water girl and can picker upper this time around, she has helped alot this year with the transplanting of seedlings also. Without her you'd be seeing a few tilled in next year, cause I never can get them to grow..

I'm pushing about 275 of my seedling starts set out and have lost about 12 so far.

[They was just dried to a crispy crunch from the heat]

The earliest sets have the best survival rate so far and I'm pushing it now to take advantage of any cloudy oppurtunity to beat the 95 degree average highs lately as long as the plant has a decent tip started and a good set of roots. The roots will be long and numerous but they are thin. That means they fill up the starter container half way decent and reach the bottom good. The bigger the starter container the better and longer the roots.

Man that plot is beautifull !!!!! I'd like to have a couple of loads of that dirt too !!

Thanks workhorse, but I need all that loamy soil. It changes every 20 yds. around here. Watch this garden and the high spots are the most loamy and hold water better. I t sucks trying to figure which varietys get the best spots.;)

so true, i made a mistake in placing my varities,,, i put a smaller growing strain behind a taller strain,, knowing what i was doing, but looking at it now, i scratch my head, at why i did that,??? im gonna blame it on beer<

Perique, you can see a havana 41 next to it that had every single leaf removed by a cut worm and started a new shoot.

bursa, small plant plant is bursa to but had been ate the ground by grasshoppers, they have been eating alot of seedlings but they survive and keep growing.
100_2054.jpg This was one of the first of my seedlings in the ground.

These were taken this afternoon after a 4" rain yesterday.

I wanted to add more pics. but will have to wait for new camera batteries, I had a silk leaf budding already that I topped and wanted to show a comparison to another silk leaf twice the size with much bigger broader leaves.

Looks like you made out well. Did you get much wind?
The plants in the field did better than the last 50 plants I had on a table partialy under a tree. I had to trim all the shredded leaves from the wind before I set out this morning. I figured if they survived the storm they'll likely make it in the field The plants that were first in the ground are starting to show some fairly good signs of growth. Alot were chewed up by insects but are getting established for the most part. I replaced atbout 25 or so, so far and have another dozen in reserve. I left one corner vacant because The soil in that corner is more like silty sand and doesn't hold water as well.
Bonners seedlings[plants] are looking great and will mature way before mine. They leaned a bit but were already facing straight up on the tops after a couple hours sun so I pretty much just left alone.

Thats my multi color soil, I tilled black kow compost in my rows, but after yesterday its spread all over. That low area was a sort of flood area, water runs through there to get to the ditch on the road, thats where I decided not to plant.

The drought has been real bad, around where I'm growing (60 miles south of BarG) there's still allot of power out from all the dead trees that fell yesterday.
