How big a difference would you think it makes if one uses a wodden barrel ( whiskey) or one made out of somethin else ?

I think of that for next year Bob , sort of makes the process a bit easier I think.
Had ideas 'bout finding myself a smaller type of barrel , perhaps not one that have had whiskey in it but something else.

I read two ways of doing this, this is a real challenging process,;)
Just let her sit for a month or pull it all out and air it out everyday or two for the first week.

I press for 1 week, pull the leaves out and repack. Let it go another 2 or 3 weeks and do the same thing. After that, it sits in the press for several months undisturbed.

Bubbles are good. If the liquid evaporates, just add a little bit of water to keep the tobacco from drying and spoiling.

That is a block of wood on top the wooden plug. Ran out of threads on the screw.

I think it is to much water? You should see it just below or less on the thick round oak plug You used BT. Mad-
The water is just over the top of the plug, just about even with the plug. The bubbling makes it look higher.

The mold will not grow beneath the surface of the liquid.

Thanks Bob, Good to know. There is almost 25 plants in that bucket. It would be a bummer to lose it all.
