Yeah I realise they are way too close. .and way too many for the space. .but im kinda just trialing different spacings etc..I still will probably pull every one in between out yet...I'm keen to see whether I can produce more seed this way also..alot im doing just for more seed. .many of the varieties im growing this year was all tge seed I had for each one..so I'm pretty keen to get back a decent amount to carry types on..

Thanks for the p.h help. .also other Burley comments put me more at ease. .Cheers guys. .

I grew a different burley strain then you (harrow velvet and golden burley) they seemed to be not as dark green as the other plants and they also were a little yellow even at times. I might of had water issues as well at that time of year.

Holy Baccy Bushes, They look Awesome for being so close.
You did not leave any room for critters, I like that idea.

Everything is looking good. That Dutch (Ohio) is a very interesting looking plant.
Very sharp angled leaves aye..

Baccy hedges..well they will be...I don't know how it will turn out. .it seems to be going okay so far. .they just work their way around each other. The bigger ones are dominating the smaller ones. .so im hoping once I harvest the bigger ones..the smaller ones can develope..like a second harvest. .

They look good. So close, some extra fertilizing may be in order before they are done.

Look forward to seeing the results of this "hedge grow".

I've been feeding them up on guano.seaweed and worm juice weekly or every other. .they seem to respond well to it. .and I notice the growth in the few days after. .then just water a little in between. .with all the heat we're getting im a bit worried that the fertiliser will get too concentrated from evaporation. .when I use to use a ppm (tds) meter it made me aware of how much the ppm percentage can increase dangerously from heat evaporating water off and burn the plants..no leaf curl so far though so all good. .I find the natural based ferts.are a lot safer..especially the worm juice. .that stuff worked great on my seedlings. .even at higher doses than the recommended amount

They look bloody great Todd, I'll be trying a hedge of some sort this grow to use up a few of the extra seedlings, maybe not that close but closer than usual.

cheers

Agree with Skychaser, find some more space and replant them at least 2 feet appart in the row and the rows 2 feet appart as well, but looking good and healthy, congrats.

My impression of close spacing is that the roots of the larger plants tend to inhibit root growth of nearby smaller plants. While small Turkish varieties seem to do remarkably well with close spacing, most full-size varieties that are spaced too closely simply decrease their leaf size in exchange for a higher total leaf count.

I had a 2' X 1' spacing on my grow this year and Sky chaser and Deluxestogie are right in what they say. In my plants, what I noticed with the close planting was that they tend to strech too much while trying to compete with each other for light and that will reduce your leaf count and size of leaf considerably. I believe now that one could get more leaf weight and quality off of 2 plants than 6 plants grown in the same area.

They were all planted a bit too late. .so I was also hoping the restricted root space will make them flower sooner..as im more keen on seed than leaf this grow..well with my cigar types anyway. .

What would help in identification is careful, close-up photos of:
  • a single, entire leaf, with a ruler
  • the juncture of one leaf with the stalk

Samsun shows free stem (with a frill) at the leaf base, and a heart-shaped leaf.

Crowded plants often do not show typical form.

Hard to tell at that size. Once the plants have more vertical growth and leaf separation then identification should be easier.
